ArchiLevels
GTA and Hamilton architecture · anonymous survey

Roles, responsibilities and salary transparency for the architecture industry.

What does “Job Captain” actually mean at your firm, and what does it pay?

Our mission is transparency and clarity, so you can plan your next move and know how you compare.

An anonymous 5-minute survey for architecture staff in the GTA and Hamilton.

Swipe sideways to compare firms →

Sample only. Boxes at the same height are roughly comparable, and overlaps show where firms place similar roles at different stages. Salaries are posted hiring ranges from public job postings (October 3, 2026), not what people earn. Cards marked Placeholder are examples that will be replaced with real postings or survey data.

The survey

Anonymous. About 5 minutes. Please answer for your own role.

Why this exists

  • Titles aren’t consistent across firms. A Project Manager at one office does the work of a Senior Project Lead at another.
  • Public numbers disagree. Indeed puts the Toronto architect average at $110,874 (36 job postings). Glassdoor says $64,121.
  • Existing surveys leave gaps. Surveys like the OAA’s don’t give firm-level salaries, or roles and responsibilities.
  • We compare roles by what you do, not what you’re called. Responsibilities, licence, experience and sector, instead of a title picked from a dropdown.

How it works

  1. Answer about 25 questions. About 5 minutes. No name asked.
  2. Your role is matched to its closest equivalents at other firms by responsibilities, licence, experience and sector.
  3. Contributors get the first GTA and Hamilton report first.

The 30-day deal

We need 100 entries in 30 days. If we reach 100, we publish the results. If we don’t, we shut the project down and permanently delete every entry and email.
0 of 100

Updated weekly by hand.

Privacy promise

  • No names asked.
  • Firm name is optional and never shown unless 5 or more people from that firm respond.
  • Email is collected in a separate form, so it’s never attached to your salary answers. It is used only to send a weekly update on the progress of this survey and eventually the first report should we get to 100 entries.
  • Only grouped results are published, never individual rows, and only if the 100-entry goal is met. No group is ever shown with fewer than 5 responses.

FAQ

Who runs this?

It is run by the ArchiLevels team, which is currently run solo by Greg. It’s an independent side project, not run by or on behalf of any firm. Reach me at architecturelevels.updates@gmail.com.

Where is the data stored?

Survey answers are stored with Tally, the form service, which states that data is stored on high-security servers within the European Union. Tally may also use submitted data to run, secure and improve its service, under its own privacy terms and in line with GDPR. Only I can see individual submissions, and I never publish them.

What happens if 100 isn’t reached?

The project shuts down. Every Tally submission, any exports or spreadsheets, and the email list are permanently deleted. The final notice email goes out first, then the list is deleted.

When do results come out?

Only if 100 or more valid entries arrive within 30 days of launch. Results are grouped medians and ranges, and contributors see them first.

Why do you ask for a firm name?

So roles can be compared firm to firm. It’s optional, and a firm only appears in results once 5 or more people from it have responded.

How do I get my entry deleted?

Email architecturelevels.updates@gmail.com with enough detail to identify your submission (such as your title, years of experience and the date). Because the survey is anonymous, I may need you to confirm a few of your answers.

Where does the Role Mapping come from?

Public job postings from larger firms with GTA and Hamilton offices and some placeholders until entries are received and it will reflect responses from respondents.
